Dame M Brennan

I have worked in schools in the Midlands for 40 years, over 24 years in Birmingham and then in schools in the Black Country.

My first headship was in a school in special measures in Dudley which became an outstanding, oversubscribed school due to an amazing team of staff. I have been fortunate to work with some amazing colleagues and have adapted the best practice seen elsewhere into my schools. Barr Beacon was also in a category in 2007 when I took it over and again with a cracking team of colleagues the school is rated as outstanding by Ofsted and is a Teaching School for Evolve Teaching School Alliance, a member of Matrix Academy Trust, a  National Support school and operates  a SCITT.

As an NLE I have acted as Headteacher in  schools in special measures for 2 terms to provide on the ground support when schools have faced major challenges. One school was removed from special measures and the other one is well on its way. My approach as an NLE is to be “more hands on” than “meeting based”.

I have enjoyed conducting pupil premium reviews and can see the benefits to the receiving school.

My passion is school improvement and ensuring that all pupils have equal access to effective schools. I have supported a number of headteachers and leadership teams on their school improvement journey.
